For the city appearing in the TV Series, see Margrave (TV Location).

Margrave is a small town in northern Georgia that Reacher visits when his brother, Joe, tells him the Blues musician Blind Blake may have been murdered and buried there.

Novel Series[]

Soon after exiting from the U.S. Army, Reacher takes the express bus from Tampa to Atlanta, but convinces the driver to let him off about an hour south of Atlanta at the junction of the road that goes into Margrave.  Reacher walks 14 miles into town. It turns out that Reacher is the only stranger in town and since the town had just had its first homicide in thirty years, he is arrested as the only suspect in the killing.

Reacher first assumed that it was a prosperous community, built on prosperous farm incomes and high taxes on the commuters who worked up in Atlanta. He notices that the town has attractive country architecture, on a seeming generous budget. Roads were smooth tarmac, sidewalks were red blocks, and he could see flagpoles, awnings, crisp paint, green lawns, and everything was refreshed by a recent heavy rain.

However, everything is not as it seems in Margrave. The Kliner family own a warehouse on the outskirts of the town up by the interstate. This warehouse is the central location of the Kliner family business and headquarters of the Kliner Foundation.

The Kliner Foundation is one of the world's largest counterfeiting organizations and the counterfeit $100 bills are given out to the Margrave businesses under the guise of an endowment. The whole town of Margrave has been swimming in counterfeit money for years.

Real World Notes[]

  • Margrave is a fictional town and does not exist in the real world.
